ABCU 2004: 20-22 June
Saint Anselm College, New Hampshire

At the May 2004 meeting, presidents expressed the need for specific materials on the Catholic, Benedictine intellectual life that can be used for discussion among faculty, administrators and staff. This is our first attempt at developing materials that will be used for discussion among presidents, prioresses and abbots.

The essays are being made available on the ABCU website for access by all members and other interested persons.

The schedule for the 2004 meeting was as follows:

June 20th:

 8:00 p.m. - Opening presentation and social

June 21st:

 9:45 a.m. - "The Benedictine Intellectual Tradition: An Overview,"  Joel Rippinger, OSB, Marmion Abbey

10:45 a.m. - Break

11:00 a.m. - Discussion

 2:30 p.m. - "Benedictine Interpreters of the Word of God," Irene Nowell, OSB, Mount St. Scholastica

 3:30 p.m. - Break

 3:45 p.m. - Discussion

June 22nd:

 9:45 a.m. - "The Shape of Song in a Flood of Words: Benedictine Education and Poetic Truth," Gary Bouchard, Saint Anselm College

10:45 a.m. - Break

11:00 a.m. - Discussion

 2:30 p.m. - A Conversation on Catholic Benedictine Intellectual Life Today, Irene Nowell, OSB, facilitator
